The emerging industry vertical is attracting a lot of researchers, businesses and investors. Few of the manufacturers and the products are mentioned below.
EHANG
Guangzhou based manufacturer is a leader in intelligent aerial vehicles and was one of the first companies to build a full scale hovercar Ehang-184. The organization provides autonomous air-transport for short and medium distances for individual travel. Ehang 184 looks to be well suited for quick runs for individuals who are pressed for time and probably for emergency rescues.
Ehang has built relationships with Dubai RTA to build world's most intelligent transport system. The expertise in building the drones has helped Ehang to be a frontrunner in this space. The AAV has a flying time of 25 mins and a cruising speed of 100 kmph. Taking take-off time, landing time and the safety charge levels in consideration, the AAV has about 40km range with a payload capacity of 120kgs.
There has been hardly any update from Ehang since the World Government Summit in February 2017.
Lilium
Freigeist (e42) seed funded EVTOL (Electric Vertical Take Off and Landing) jet started in 2015 with a goal to leverage the advantages of quadcopters and tilt-rotors. The Munich based firm ushered a new life into this space by testing their first flight in April 2017. Recent Series B funding of $90M (total $100M) by Tencent, LGT and Automico added resources to the firm. The funding would be used to develop the 5-seater jet commercially.
Daniel Weigand, founder and CEO claims "The jet’s economy and efficiency means flights are predicted to cost less than the same journey in a normal road taxi."
The Lilium jet has a seating capacity of 5 and can cruise at 300kmph (190mph). The jet has a range of 300kms on a single charge making it a very strong contender for travel/taxi service within a traffic clogged city like New York or Los Angeles.
